Woodworking
I do love a piece of furniture made from real wood. If it
looks like walnut, I want it to be walnut all the way through! And it is for
this reason that I mainly began my hobby as a woodworker. I prefer to create my
own designs rather than use a plan that has already been made. I realize that
sometimes the plans that I have may not be as good as other plans that
I could find somewhere else. However, I'm always assured that the piece
that I create will be unique, and that is the motivation and the challenge
that I love about woodworking.
The design part always takes the longest, but usually I wind up with something that I am satisfied with in the end- although imperfect it may be. I place something that is structurally sound over something of elegant design, just because it will not be practical if it is not durable. It is in that strength that I believe there is an inherit sense of unmistakable beauty. Plus, it is working with your hands, and there is something that is magical about that in itself.
